HECTOR project is coordinated by the European Institute of Cultural Routes and involves three universities - IREST, University Paris 1 Sorbonne (France), LABPACT, University of Barcelona (Spain), CAST, University of Bologna (Italy) - and a research center - Fondazione Federico II (Italy).

The partners will work during two years on the identification and the development of educational programmes in the field of heritage and cultural tourism management related to Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.

European Institute of Cultural Routes (Luxembourg)

The European Institute of Cultural Routes was set up as part of a political agreement between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Ministry for Culture, Higher Education and Research) and the Council of Europe.

Since 1998 its mission is to ensure the continuity and the implementation of the Cultural Routes programme in the 50 signatory countries of the European Cultural Convention, in close cooperation with the Council of Europe.

The EICR is located in the prestigious site of the European Cultural Centre of the Abbaye de Neumünster and houses the documentary resources of the programme as well as a library with books on Cultural Routes and related subjects of interest.

It provides advice to the cultural routes, both certified and projects, and welcomes project managers, researchers and students, this by cooperating with Universities in Europe and beyond.

It collaborates in the setting up and operation of the routes and participates in events and exhibitions, promoting a greater awareness of the links between culture, tourism and the environment. The EICR also carries out evaluations of existing routes and new proposals, using the considerable expertise it has accumulated on the methodology of creating, promoting and evaluating Cultural Routes.

The staff provides advice and expertise to Cultural Routes managers in relation to the organisational, technical and logistical aspects of the conception, development and promotion of Cultural Routes.

Institut de Recherche et d'Études Supérieures du Tourisme – Université Paris1 Sorbonne Panthéon (France)

Created in 1961, the Centre for Higher Studies on Tourism (CEST) became in 1989 the Institute of Research and Higher Studies on tourism (IREST).

The IREST is an interdisciplinary Institute attached to the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University who offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in  the areas of Tourism Planning, of Heritage management, of Hotel and Tourism Management, of International Tourism and Tourism and the Law, in Paris and abroad, in French and in English.

The IREST prepares also a Research Master on "Tourism, Environment, Heritage" aiming at preparing PhD studies on Tourism.  

The Institute also offers a university degree "Tourism International, the French approach" open to international students and professionals.

The IREST research activities are structured within of the EIREST research center which brings together a large number of researchers and PdD students working on tourism in an interdisciplinary approach.

The IREST coordinates the activities of the UNESCO Chair "Culture, tourism, development" and of the International UNESCO UNITWIN network composed of several universities in the 5 continents.

The IREST celebrated in 2011 its 50th anniversary. An anniversary book tracing its history was published on this occasion.

Laboratory for Heritage, Creativity and Cultural Tourism - LABPACT – Universitat de Barcelona (Spain)

LABPACT is a spin-off initiative promoted by the cultural management program at the University of Barcelona and IBERTUR - Network of Heritage, Tourism and Sustainable Development. It was created under the CHARTS Project (Culture and Heritage Added value to Regional Policies for Tourism Sustainability) funded by the INTERREG IVC program and promoted by the European Network of Cultural Tourism.

The LABPATC is promoted by a multidisciplinary group of professors, researchers, graduate students and doctoral candidates linked to the University of Barcelona and promotes research initiatives, specialized training and projects in collaboration with other academic institutions of reference, public and private organizations, companies and international organizations in the field of cultural heritage management, territories and creative cities, cultural routes and itineraries, cultural tourism and sustainable development.

The operation of LABPATC is based on co-working, networking and is intended as a permanent space for exchanging experiences that focuses on a model of entrepreneurial and open university in the field of humanities and social sciences, contributing training, recruitment and retention of talent and promoting the culture of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

The LABPATC promotes the knowledge transfer and specialized technical training actions by organizing workshops, courses, seminars and professional conferences aimed at fostering innovation and providing new tools for professionals (public institutions, companies and third sector organizations).

Center for Advanced Studies in Tourism – Università di Bologna (Italy)

Starting from February 2014 the Center for Advanced Studies in Tourism (CAST) of the University of Bologna has been established in Rimini Campus, thanks to the cooperation of four Departments (DiSA, DSE, QuVi, STAT). CAST aim is to foster advanced scientific research and professional training in the tourism field under a multidisciplinary perspective.

CAST continues the long tradition of research and education in the tourism field introduced in Rimini by the University of Bologna in the 1960s.

CAST together with the School of Economics, Management and Statistics, University of Bologna (Rimini Campus) are the leading institutions in tourism studies, known for the high quality of teaching and research programmes fostered by a young and dynamic team of academics in every tourism field.

The mission of the Center includes promotion, design and implementation of research projects, lifelong learning courses, advanced education in different tourism sciences fields: tourism economics, tourism statistics, tourism management, tourism geography, tourism history, tourism law and policy, sustainable tourism, etc.

CAST is member of the UNESCO/Unitwin Network “Culture, Tourism, Development”, of the Network for Cultural Routes Studies of the Council of Europe, of EUNek and is establishing international bilateral agreements with universities, ONG and research centers in the field of tourism around the World.

CAST is the publisher of AlmaTourism, Journal of Tourism, Culture and Territorial Development, the first Italy based open access scientific journal on tourism, and participates in the Via@ project, a multi-language, interdisciplinary, international review on tourism.

Fondazione Federico II (Italy)

The Fondazione Federico II established in December 9th 1996 with the regional law n.44, is a private institution whose legal status was  recognized in August 1997 by decree of the President of the Regione Siciliana; it is the Cultural and Informative Organ of the Assemblea Regionale Siciliana. Entitled to the monarch,who in the XIII century made of Sicily the crib of art and literature, and knew how to integrate the ethnic and cultural diversities presences in the Island at that time. The Fondazione Federico II has the assignment to valorize the cultural patrimony of Sicily and its artists. The Fondazione also, according to the art. 51 of the regional law 15 from 2004,  manages  the additional services personnel  related to the Complesso Monumentale di Palazzo dei Normanni and of the Cappella Palatina (ticketing and bookshop), and through this activities covers its own operating costs.

The Fondazione is in charge of printing and distributing a fortnightly edition, Cronache Parlamentari Siciliane, accomplishing this way one of its missions which is to spread the knowledge of the activities of the Institutional Organs of the Regione Siciliana.


And finally the Fondazione organizes events and exhibitions in the spaces granted by the Assemblea Regionale Siciliana.
